Introduction:
This compelling work employs a polyphonic narrative structure, weaving firsthand accounts with multi-perspective storytelling to chronicle the heroic rescue of Gan Yu during the September 5th Luding earthquake. It vividly portrays how the Communist Party of China, the state, local governments, and ordinary citizens rallied under the unwavering belief of "no abandonment, no surrender" in a relentless, days-long search—a testament to the profound "two-way journey" between rescuers and the rescued.
To protect lives and vital infrastructure, Gan Yu, an unassuming power plant worker, risked everything to release floodgates at the Wandong Hydropower Station, sacrificing his chance to escape. His 17-day ordeal—a harrowing battle for survival against impossible odds—culminated in a miraculous rescue, etching a saga of human resilience.
Through intimate portrayals of Gan Yu, Luo Yong, and other everyday heroes, the book lays bare their psychological struggles and triumphs, embodying the indomitable Chinese spirit and collective strength that conquers adversity.
