Introduction:

This book is part of "The May Fourth and New Culture Movement Series", offering a nuanced narrative of the New Culture Movement's emergence and evolution. This book examines pivotal historical questions—why the movement arose, how contemporary schalors perceived it, the roles of different intellectual factions, and regional responses across China—through a rigorously chronological and logic-driven approach. By deconstructing long-held assumptions, the book moves beyond ideological interpretations to reconstruct the authentic dynamics of May Fourth.

It provides definitive answers to previously ambiguous historical issues while filling gaps in scholarship, from overlooked fragments to hastily summarized episodes. Ultimately, this work sets a methodological benchmark for re-examining watershed historical events with fresh precision.
